Arrests made after murder
Indian labourers are taken by police after Nepalese worker is beaten to death in labour camp
Thirty more Indian labourers have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old Nepalese worker last week.
Beeshu Raj, who was an Arabtech employee, was beaten to death with aluminium pipes and steel rods by a group of Indian labourers in a fight that broke out at the company’s Jebel Ali labour camp.
Initially, the police had arrested nine Nepalis, seven Indians and a Pakistani in connection with the murder.
According to a Nepalese worker, the fight began when two Indian workers became involved in a dispute with two Nepalese workers near the kitchen of the labour camp where the men were staying.
“Fights between workers of different nationalities are very common in these labour camps,” said K Kumar who works for the welfare wing of the Indian Consulate. Arabtech refused to comment.
