Frozen ET helps couple have twins

A Dubai-based Indian couple had twins thanks to frozen ET and the help of Belhoul Speciality Hospital’s visiting specialist, Dr C Mohammed Ashraf.

A Dubai-based Indian couple were blessed with twins, one male and one female, on October 13 thanks to the frozen embryo transfer technique and the help of Belhoul Speciality Hospital’s visiting specialist obstetrics and gynaecologist, Dr C Mohammed Ashraf.

The couple had three previous failed attempts but with the use of PESA-ICSI (Percutaneous Epidydimal Sperm Aspiration-Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) and Frozen ET (Embryo Transfer), they were successful in transferring the embryos into the mother’s womb. This lengthy procedure involves keeping the two embryos at minus 197 degrees centigrade in liquid nitrogen for about one year.

Under the supervision of Dr Ashraf, a fertility specialist from India, the babies were delivered by caesarean section at Belhoul Speciality Hospital on October 13, weighing 2.6 kilograms and 2.3 kilograms.

According to Dr Ashraf, IVF-ICSI has now become the most successful way of treating infertility. He says due to improved technology and expertise, the pregnancy success rate is now approximately 50% when in good hands.
