Value-added distributor Tech Access reckons that Middle East companies are starting to recognise the importance of effective disaster recovery solutions. Citing research by Dynamic Markets, conducted on behalf of Symantec, Tech Access says that a majority of companies in the region believe they would benefit from disaster recovery investment.

“Regional companies are recognising the importance of addressing risk management and security issues by investing in information protection and management solutions. Computer system downtime has really dropped significantly due to implemented disaster recovery systems. This is a significant achievement for Middle Eastern business,” said Umar Malik, VP of professional service at Tech Access.

According to the research by Dynamic Markets, disaster recovery is increasingly being taken seriously at the highest corporate levels. The researchers claim that across EMEA, the percentage of companies implementing disaster recovery strategies has almost doubled to 21%.

Middle East companies are leading the way with 29% of regional businesses reviewing their disaster recovery strategies on a monthly basis, compared to just 17% and 15% in the UK and US respectively. More than half of Middle East companies questioned believed they would benefit from disaster recovery investment, compared to just a quarter of companies in countries such as France and the US.

Tech Access reckons it is well placed to take advantage of the increased levels of interest in disaster recovery solutions, offering enterprise solutions from Symantec and e-mail security solutions from BlackSpider. These products enable rapid response to IT breakdowns and security breaches, according to the distributor.

A majority of Middle East companies that have invested in a disaster recovery plan have found the systems and procedures put in place useful, with more than 50% using an element of their disaster recovery plan at some point.

With businesses now heavily reliant on IT systems, the outlook for further investment in disaster recovery solutions looks strong.
