The management team overseeing the delivery of the US $15 billion Blue City mega-project in Oman has been restructured just months before construction is due to start.

Construction Week has learned that Fari Akhlaghi has replaced Heiko Achilles as chief executive of Reem Moon, the Bahrain headquartered project representative and
development manager for what will be Oman’s largest
construction job.

The company is currently in the process of awarding contracts for the construction and project supervision of the ambitious resort-based development.

Chief executive Fari Akhlaghi confirmed that the pre-qualification process had been completed and that contractors were in the process of being appointed.

Blue City is being developed by Al Sawadi Investment & Tourism Company.

It will be built in multiple phases and is expected to be complete by 2020.

The first phase is due to start construction in October.
It will cost approximately US $1.8 billion.

The project will host five beach resorts and hotels providing approximately 2000 hotel rooms, a signature golf course and golf community, 1000 residential units and an aquarium.

Upon completion, Blue City is intended to be home to 200 000 people.
