BMMI joins Kuwaiti consortium

Bahraini-based BMMI joins a Kuwaiti consortium in order to improve logistics and customs movement between Kuwait and Iraq.

Bahraini-based BMMI has joined a Kuwaiti consortium that will be responsible for a major logistics project in association with the Kuwait government.

The project, which entails the construction and operation of warehousing, industrial sites, offices and customs facilities at Al Abdaly, the Kuwaiti border with Iraq, will be led by two diversified conglomerates in the Middle East, Kuwait Projects Company and Al Kharafi Group.

Covering an area of 6 million square feet, the complex aims to facilitate the free movement of goods between Kuwait and Iraq. At the moment the consortium is in the process of incorporating United Facility Development (UFD), the new company that will be responsible for the construction and operation of the facility.

The first phase of the project is expected to commence before the end of this year with BMMI providing specialised logistics services including the design and operation of warehouses, in association with its joint-venture partner B&B Logistics.

In order to facilitate this BMMI is establishing a new joint venture company in Kuwait — United BMMI Logistics — with United Warehousing & Refrigeration Company (URWC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kipco.
