According to online quotes attributed to an Intel spokesman, the hardware giant’s CEO will announce details of its next-generation CPU for desktops later this month.
Mercury News quoted Intel's spokesman, Bill Calder, as suggesting that CEO Paul Otellini will release details about the new chip (which may or may not be named the 'Pentium 5') at Intel's Developer Forum (IDF). This event takes place place on August 23 in California, US.
Mercury News also quoted Rob Enderle, an analyst at the Enderle Group in San Jose, who commented, “This is a huge bet. They have to stick this one. They have been having execution problems and have improved lately but still have to show they can do it.'”
When launched, Intel’s all-new desktop CPU will be the first such major release in five years and will thus be heavily scrutinised by system builders and PC enthusiasts alike.
Intel’s Middle East spokesperson told Windows Middle East that there are no details of the chip available at present.
