Trend to teach users how to battle viruses

Security vendor flies in leading experts to talk show delegates through its wide range of security solutions and explain the damage viruses can do to companies

Visitors to this year’s Gitex will be able to get a taste of wild life, as security firm Trend Micro is promising it will have the opportunity to see “live” viruses on its stand at the exhibition.

The viruses will be displayed “writhing” inside a Perspex shield, although for those visitors who find that prospect all a bit too scary, they should rest assured that Trend Micro has promised to have a number of its leading experts on hand to keep them safe.

Currently one of the world’s leaders in antivirus and internet content security software and services, the security firm wants to use this year’s show to highlight the shifting landscape of the fight against destructive software in the Middle East. The company has lined up some of its expert staff to present new research, and allow attendees to uncover new information about spam, spyware and malware, which will help them to protect their companies.

“Attendees will be able to see viruses up close through special glasses, and gain a first-hand insight into just how much damage they can inflict. We want to emphasise the importance of virus protection to visitors and provide them with updates on the advanced technology that is now available in the region to protect them,” says Justin Doo, managing director, Trend Micro Middle East and Africa.

This year’s show will also see Trend Micro unveil the latest in a series of solutions for fighting spyware and malware. Visitors will also be able to learn more about key technologies, such as Trend Micro InterScan Web Security Suite, which blocks spyware from entering the network at the gateway, and Trend Micro OfficeScan, which blocks unwanted spyware, adware, and remote access tools.

Having claimed significant medium-sized and enterprise business throughout the Middle East during 2005, and worked with a number of leading banking, government, oil and gas and educational organisations, Trend Micro will showcase what it sees as its unmatched industry-specific expertise at Gitex 2005.

“Trend Micro is launching its most impressive-ever presence at Gitex 2005, including head-turning Spyware solutions, an increased emphasis on greyware, and improved network virus protection. Our experience with the Middle East’s most important institutions enables us to provide the highest possible levels of service,” Doo says.
Senior Trend Micro figures will also present key new research illustrating the extent and impact of viruses worldwide and in the Middle East.
