LogicaCMG has won a contract to provide a next generation messaging solution to Spacetel Syria’s Areeba network. This contract is LogicaCMG’s second messaging deal in Syria and cements its relationships with Investcom Holding, one of the world’s fastest growing telecommunications companies and owner of the Spacetel Syria network.
Areeba is a leading Syrian operator with more than 1,150 GSM sites serving the main cities and roads in the country. Areeba is deploying LogicaCMG’s next generation short message service centre (SMSC), multimedia message service centre (MMSC) and cell broadcast service (CBS), allowing the operator to deliver enhanced SMS and MMS services to its subscriber base of one million users spanning both business and consumer customers.
Ismail Jaroudi, deputy managing director at Spacetel Syria, said: “The use of mobile messaging services is growing at a rapid rate in Syria so our priority was to find a solution that offered sufficient flexibility to accommodate this rise in demand. We selected LogicaCMG because its next generation messaging solution offered an integrated solution for key data services such as SMS and MMS, integrating best of breed modules and applications into our network, easily and cost-effectively.”
“LogicaCMG’s proven leadership in next generation messaging solutions and their experience in developing and deploying advanced messaging technologies for operators across the globe were all key factors in our choice,” he continued.
Nabil Y. Khalil, director for LogicaCMG’s global telecom business in the Middle East and North Africa, commented: “Working with Investcom Holdings in Syria is very exciting as Investcom is a rapidly expanding organisation with a strong position in the marketplace. We are very pleased to deploy Spacetel Syria’s core messaging technology and support it in extending the range of services on offer to its customers.”
Areeba claims that the deployment of LogicaCMG’s next generation messaging solution will not only allow the rollout of new premium services in the SMS and MMS arena, but will also create a simple migration path to even more advanced services such as video and unified messaging.
London-quoted LogicaCMG has developed a strong global position in the telecoms product, services and solutions market. The company claims that its systems deliver two out of every three text messages and its messaging and billing solutions have been deployed by 300 of the world’s top operators across 130 countries representing a user base of 800 million active subscribers.
LogicaCMG Global Telecoms' operation for the Middle East and North Africa region is based in Dubai Internet City with branch offices in Riyadh and Cairo.
