Qatar gets first magazine for working women

The first magazine aimed at working women in Qatar has been launched, with its publishers planning to roll the title out across the Gulf next year.

The first magazine aimed at working women in Qatar has been launched, with its publishers planning to roll the title out across the Gulf next year.

Woman Today, a 100-page glossy from Qatar-based Oryx Publishing and Advertising, is designed to be a guide to “better living and working smarter”, and features articles and interviews on finance, careers, fashion, health, food and family.

Ravi Raman, business manager at Oryx Publishing and Advertising said more women in Qatar were being encouraged to work, which presented an opportunity for advertisers to reach this high spending segment of the market.

“We have been working on this concept for over six months now,” said Raman “With the number of working women in Qatar going up, the market was certainly there, we just had to fine tune our edit mix. Working women have a high disposable income and a propensity to buy, and I think marketers in the Middle East are waking up to this fact.”

Woman Today, which costs 10 Qatari Riyals (US$2.70), has an initial print run of 12,500, but Raman said he expected that to rise to between 15,000 and 18,000 by the end of the year.

“The reaction so far has been extremely positive,” he said. “Once we are established in Qatar, we will look to move the magazine into other markets in the Gulf, probably sometime next year.”

Oryx also produces news and business magazine Qatar Today and its Arabic edition Qatar Al Yom.
