Nokia continues to push updated N-Gage QD in EMEA
Outgoing CEO and chairman Jorma Ollila will continue his service with the vendor as non-executive chairman after June 1, 2006.
Nokia has announced plans to release an N-Gage QD Silver Edition to the European, Middle Eastern and African markets. “We have had a lot of requests from both consumers and trade to provide an N-Gage QD variant. This is very much in line with our fall consumer activities,” said Jukka Hosio, director, global sales, Games Business Programme, Nokia. “We chose silver as it is one of the season's most fashionable colours.”
The new N-Gage QD Silver Edition game deck has all the smartphone functionalities and connectivity features as the original N-Gage QD game deck, including calendar, contacts, e-mail, web browsing, Bluetooth connectivity and GPRS.
The new N-Gage QD Silver Edition game deck is expected to be available in the European, Middle Eastern and African markets from September 1.
Nokia has also announced it has appointed Olli Pekka Kallasvuo as president and COO effective from October 1, and president and CEO effective from June 1, 2006. Kallasvuo currently heads the mobile phone group and joined Nokia in 1980. Outgoing CEO and chairman Jorma Ollila will continue his service with the vendor as non-executive chairman after June 1, 2006. Nokia president Pekka Ala Pietila will resign to pursue personal interests, from October 1, and then take up a role with Nokia as an executive advisor, and step down from the Finnish vendor on February 1, 2006.
The management changes at Nokia have prompted speculation that leading networking company Cisco Systems may be tempted to launch a daring takeover bid for Nokia.
