Jadaf Dubai continues strong performance

Ship repair yard, Jadaf Dubai announces a 6.5% increase in ship lifting operations during the second quarter of 2005.

Jadaf Dubai, the oldest ship repair yard in the Persian Gulf area has seen a 6.5% increase in ship lifting operations during the second quarter of 2005, compared to the same period last year. Dock No.1, which handles all types of sea faring vessels weighing up to 250 DWT, was involved in the docking and undocking of 429 ships, while Dock No.II handled 177 ships.

“We have carried forward our excellent performance from the first quarter and have been able to meet the rising demand for ship docking and undocking services in this quarter as well,” said Khamis Abdullah Bin Jarsh, assistant general manager, Jadaf Dubai.

“A major factor behind our achievements over the years is due to the high levels of technical expertise of our staff, which has resulted in maximum efficiency and productivity in our operations,” he added.

Metal vessels and yachts comprised the majority of ships that were handled by Jadaf between April and June 2005, with lengths ranging from 12.8×80 metres to 31×11 metres. The biggest vessel that Jadaf handled in this quarter weighed 1360 tonnes, while the smallest ship weighed 144 tonnes.

“Docking and undocking of ships is a complex operation requiring plenty of experience, precision and expertise in reading ship blueprints. The technical staff at Jadaf ensure that the entire process is carried out smoothly, in the most efficient manner,” added Bin Jarsh.

“Further, the significant rise in dredging activities for the various offshore projects in Dubai has increased the need for regular maintenance for the ships used for dredging,” he added.
