Jeddah Mall revamps audio

Jeddah Mall has recently revamped its audio systems to cater to its varying sound requirements.

Jeddah Mall has recently revamped its audio systems to cater to varying sound requirements during the holidays when performers and speakers entertain crowds seated on the ground floor as well as those located on the upper floors of the mall. The installation was undertaken by Halwani Audio Visual (HAV) Professional Professional, based in Saudi Arabia.

“Audio had always been problematic since the opening of the mall due to the difficult acoustics -- there is a high dome, and three tiered floors with walkways positioned on the perimeter overlooking the main seating area,’ says Bassam Halwani, managing director of A/V installer, HAV Professional.

HAV chose an Allen & Heath DR66 equipped with a delay card to resolve the situation. The unit's DSP functionality controls the difficult acoustics, separating and distributing audio to zones on all four floors and a centre cluster, each with its own level, EQ and delay setting. Different settings were set up on the DR66 for music playback and the performers, with automatic ducking for announcements or alarms. To complete the installation, HAV fitted a cluster of Tannoy speakers in the centre of the dome to fill the acoustic void, with more speakers on each floor.
