Bechtel wins deals in UAE and Oman
US giant builds on strong regional portfolio
US construction giant Bechtel has taken contracts worth US $3.4 billion in the UAE and Oman.
The first deal, which is worth approximately US $1.2 billion, was signed with Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Gasco) for a massive gas plant in the United Arab Emirates.
In a statement the company confirmed the award of the EPC contract, which will cover the treatment of 22.65 million m3 per day to recover 6400 tonnes per day.
Bechtel has also signed a US $2.2 billion deal with Oman’s Sohar Aluminium for an aluminium smelter project in the north of the country.
According to the company, the construction of the 325 000 tonnes-per-year aluminium smelter is part of a project which also includes desalination as well as electricity plants.
Work on the Oman project is expected to begin before the end of the year.
The smelter is expected to start production in 2008.
