Oman will be represented for the first time ever at this year’s Dubai air show, with Dahra Logistics & Marketing having booked a stand at Dubai 2005. The aircraft spares supplier will be using the event to expand its presence in the region, particularly in the UAE.
“Already new airlines, such as Air Arabia and Etihad, are growing fast, [and] particularly, the low-cost airline model has massive potential [in the region],” says Khamis Obaid Mubarak Al-Ajmi, CEO, Dahra Logistics & Marketing. “Many no-frills operators will start operating from the GCC catering to the needs of passengers from Asian countries,” he predicts.
Dahra’s presence at Dubai 2005 will support its plans to open an office in the emirate, which is pencilled in for April 2006. The company already has an international presence including market research and liaison offices in the UK and the USA. Al-Ajmi also predicts that the company’s business is set to double, and forecasts contracts worth US $4 million for 2006.
“We currently provide services to Oman-based companies, such as the Royal Air Force of Oman, Oman Air, Royal Oman Police and the Royal Flight, but the GCC’s aviation industry growth will soon enable us to expand our operations across the region,” he says.
“Our Dubai 2005 participation is aimed at giving us exposure to the global industry and the opportunity to meet and establish contacts with aviation chiefs and decision makers from the region and beyond.”
The presence of Oman’s Dhara means that five of the GCC states will be present at the show — Kuwait is the exception so far — along with two other Arab states, Jordan and Lebanon. “Oman’s Dubai air show debut signals a significant milestone, as it is a clear indication that the region’s aviation industry development is expanding in size and scope,” says Clive Richardson, CEO, aerospace division, Fairs & Exhibitions (F&E), which organises the Dubai air show.
“The Sultanate’s aviation sector has come a long way and we look forward to welcoming Dahra Logistics & Marketing to Dubai as the event’s first ever Omani participant.”
