Cognos extends market leadership with Microsoft Office
Software enhances reporting and analysis capabilities for Microsoft Office.
With its new Office Connection software, enterprise business intelligence (EBI) and corporate performance management (CPM) provider, Cognos, is extending and enhancing reporting and analysis capabilities for Microsoft’s Office suite of applications.
Leveraging the Microsoft.NET framework and smart client technology, the Office Connection allows business users to consume, interact with, and refresh business intelligence content in the Microsoft Office suite, while ensuring control and manageability of information.
“Today, spreadsheets are pervasive throughout organisations because users are comfortable with the environment,” says David Brierley, regional manager of Cognos Middle East, Turkey and Greece operations. “Using our new solution, Microsoft Office customers around the world can use their spreadsheets and our reporting and analysis solutions at the same time.”
The Cognos Office Connection is tightly integrated with Microsoft’s Office application suite to help users take advantage of corporate data without relying on IT. Using the Office Connection, end users can easily connect to and select the data they need within Microsoft Excel.
Business users can embed report components such as tables, charts, and graphics in their documents by navigating content and selecting and inserting parts of their reports from directly within Excel. This allows organisations to overcome the traditional hassles of working with disconnected spreadsheets like data quality, integrity, accuracy, and lineage.
