BenQ aims for blockbusting summer

BenQ has unveiled its latest digital home projector, the PE7700, which it hopes will catch the eye of home movie buffs this summer and thus help it grow its projector market share over the hot forthcoming months.

BenQ has unveiled its latest digital home projector, the PE7700, which it hopes will catch the eye of home movie buffs this summer and thus help it grow its projector market share over the hot forthcoming months.

According to BenQ, television viewing figures across the GCC are higher than ever during this sweltering few weeks. It’s precisely this AC-hogging armchair audience that the PE7700 is aimed at.

Kitted out with BenQ’s ‘Senseye’ technology, which automatically improves image quality and adjusts brightness and darkness levels to suit the viewer’s environment, the projector incorporates 1100 ANSI lumens of brightness, a 2500:1 contrast ratio for crisp images, and a six-segment colour wheel that can display up to 16.7 million colours.

“The PE7700 is truly a complete home cinema experience,” according to Robert Dung, managing director of BenQ Middle East.

BenQ is a relatively recent entrant to the global market for digital projectors, but already claims to have grabbed the number two market share spot in Asia. Within the Middle East, the company also reckons it’s on course to capture the number two position for sales of digital projection systems in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, following what it claims have been “strong sales figures” in the first half of 2005.

In addition to competing with other vendors’ digital projectors for GCC consumers’ summer spending cash, the PE7700 will also find itself competing with the many new LCD TV models hitting stores at present. On the IT front, Dell this year launched its range in this region, with Acer following suit earlier this week.
