Etihad Crystal Cargo carried 27% of the cargo flying out of Abu Dhabi International Airport in May 2005, making it the market leader for freight services out of the UAE capital. The 27% figure marks strong growth for the carrier, which had only 16% of the market in May 2004, according to the figures from ADAS (Abu Dhabi Airport Services).
In 2004, its first full year of operation, Etihad Crystal Cargo carried 20,000 tons of cargo. This year, the airline is aiming to lift more than 100,000 tons. Its ambitions in this regard have been helped by its fleet expansion plans, which have included the introduction of its first two regional freighters. The two comprise an A300-600F with a payload of up to 44,000kgs and the A310-300F with a payload of up to 39,000kgs. A second Airbus A300-600F will join Etihad Crystal Cargo’s fleet in August. Four regional freighters are due to arrive by the end of 2006, which will raise the size of the freighter fleet to six.
