Demand for network intelligence

In a survey by the Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), volume management and back-up were listed as the top two priorities for CIOs in an initial intelligent storage network implementation, scoring 42% and 41% respectively.

CIOs are struggling to come to terms with data management and as a result are looking to deploy increasingly innovative storage solutions.

Network-based intelligence is beginning to be recognised as an efficient means to tap business needs, offering ease of management. Over the next few years, vendors will be stepping up their roll out of this type of technology, but there remain many considerations for CIOs when planning an implementation in order to justify moving applications into the fabric of the infrastructure.

In a survey by the Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), volume management and back-up were listed as the top two priorities for CIOs in an initial intelligent storage network implementation, scoring 42% and 41% respectively.

The ESG also found evidence to suggest that early adopters of intelligent storage networks were realising mean annual savings of 23.8% on storage hardware spending, 16.2% on storage software spending and 19.3% on storage administration costs when deployed on a large storage area network (SAN) comprised of six or more fabrics.
