Audio-visual rental company, Wide Angle has installed Electro-Voice audio systems for its sound reinforcement requirements at the Global Village, a special venue opened annually to visitors during the Dubai Shopping festival. Wide Angle has installed Electo-Voice’s EV XLC system, a Plasma system for monitoring and front fill requirements.
The XLC system at the Global Village is hung from a 40 metre long super truss, claimed to be the biggest truss set up so far. Two stacks, of four XLC 118 Subs and 4 XLC 127+ Tops, are hung on either side. To supplement the XLC, four Plasma P2 Active Subs have been placed on the ground and four Plasma P1 Active Tops have been placed on stage for monitoring. The system is being used at the official DSF stage, where daily shows will be held and telecast through Dubai TV’s Arabic channel.
“The XLC has been designed to produce outstanding sonic results in a large variety of venue sizes,” says Chicco Hiranandani, product manager, NMK Electronics. “The system features wide horizontal coverage pattern of 120 degrees. The rigging hardware is totally integrated into the cabinets, making it easy to setup with just two persons. Also, the front rigging/rear aiming concept enables precise control of vertical line source pattern.”
Likewise, the Plasma P1 was chosen because it delivers uniform coverage in both horizontal and vertical planes. “The P1’s applications are for environments such as theatres and stages, where the highest quality of sound is required,” says Hiranandani.
The Electro-Voice Plasma P2 is a new generation of subwoofers designed as an extension for the P1 speakers. Its Class-H amplifier requires no fans and promises low maintenance. “Coupled with signal processing for linear acoustic response and unobtrusive protection, it delivers the power required for high-level reinforcement. Dynamic linearity is another benefit of amplifiers designed for system integration with large format transducer motors. The patented Low-Pass-Notch filter compensates for transient distortion of dynamic signals and allows the P2 to achieve a higher acoustic output than expected from a compact cabinet,” says Hiranandani.
