Redline debuts WiMax compliant solution

Wireless vendor Redline Communications has announced its AN-100U wireless platform, which it claims is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard, better known as WiMax.

Wireless vendor Redline Communications has announced its AN-100U wireless platform, which it claims is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard, better known as WiMax.

The AN-100U can functions as a base station and subscriber station and advances Redline's readiness for WiMAX interoperability testing and commercial viability.

“From our earliest days of product development, Redline has been committed to delivering solutions that support the standardisation needs of the industry,” says Keith Doucet, VP of marketing and product management at Redline.

A major market for the AN-100U platform will be backhauling wireless access networks.

Redline is also participating in the development of the 802.16e standard for mobile WiMax applications.

Redline will ship the product as soon as its low-cost consumer CPE, based on Rosedale and expected to cost less than US$500, is completed.

Roger Marks, chairman of the IEEE 802.16 task group, says the evolution of 802.16 has been instrumental in accelerating broadband wireless deployment.

“Interest in IEEE Standard 802.16 continues to explode around the world, with hundreds of engineers from global industry cooperating on its evolution. As companies introduce new products based upon on that foundation, the synergies created by the standard are set to bring about a rapid evolution of broadband wireless access as an essential communications tool.”
