Almasa ties up with Samsung

Regional giant Almasa IT Distribution has teamed up with IT behemoth Samsung. Almasa will distribute optical media storage (OMS) products in Iran, and hard disk drives (HDD) in both Iran and the UAE.

“Almasa is known for its extensive distribution reach and far reaching channel engagement,” said Kwang Hak Koh, general manager at Samsung Gulf Electronics. “Iran is one of their core markets and we believe that our distribution arrangement will be very successful.”

The addition of Samsung’s range of HDD and OMS products to Almasa’s portfolio should see the distributor become a one-stop-components-shop for assemblers and resellers in the region. “At the end of the day the channel prefers to minimize their purchase points, and buy from a few major distribution giants. Almasa carrying Samsung products is a major plus point for us,” added Koh.

Samsung’s Almasa move could dramatically increase both its HDD and OMS numbers, and transform the vendor into a major player in the Middle East market. “We have seen a rapid rise in product out during 2004. With a top tier distribution partner like Almasa on board, we feel that we will be winning even more market share in 2005, and our end goal is to replicate our HDD success in India and Turkey, where we are now number one,” concluded Koh.
