Adobe ships Acrobat 7.0
Adobe Systems is shipping Acrobat 7.0, a family of desktop apps that enables workgroups to manage a range of business activities. The latest update to the vendor's Intelligent Document Platform provides users the ability to assemble documents from multiple sources, create intelligent forms and collaborate on projects among other capabilities.

The latest update to the Adobe Intelligent Document Platform, provides users the ability to assemble documents from multiple sources, create intelligent forms, and collaborate on projects inside and outside the firewall, among other capabilities.
Acronym for Portable Document Format (PDF), the universal file format was created by Adobe Systems in 1993 allowing users to distribute, read, and view electronic documents with all formatting, fonts, text sizes, graphics, color, etc. intact, regardless of the software or platform used to create the file. It’s advantage over HTML is that it allows publishers to design complicated layouts using any typefaces and graphics and ensuring that the end user will view the same layout that the publisher has created.
“We have made it easier for dispersed project teams to share document-based information,” explains Andrew Lindstrom, regional manager Middle East, Africa and Indian Ocean Islands, Adobe Systems. “Acrobat 7.0 Professional opens up the review, markup and approval process by enabling enhanced capabilities in Adobe Reader. Now, clients, partners and employees can comment on materials electronically without having to purchase specialised software like CAD applications.”
For businesses, responding efficiently to customer problems requires quick access to a wide range of information, from technical documents outlining systems to detailed maps highlighting system locations, Adobe says the new version will enable companies to offer their customers better service through faster application performance.
Acrobat 7.0 Professional provides more advanced control over engineering and design documents for technical and creative workgroups that rely on specialised software, including computer-aided design applications and publishing solutions such as Adobe Creative Suite.
Acrobat 7.0 Standard is targeted at business professionals in organisations of all sizes, where the ability to effectively find, use and manage vital information—from emails and web pages to everyday application files. Acrobat Elements is a license-only product that allows enterprises to put Adobe PDF creation capability on every desktop for more secure document distribution.
In addition to the ability to view and print Adobe PDF files, Adobe Reader 7.0 now offers features such as collaborative document reviews, have Yahoo! Search capabilities and can interact with 3D objects placed in PDF.
Adobe have also announced the immediate availability of Adobe Reader 7.0, including a public beta version for the Linux operating system. The company’s free PDF reader software can be downloaded at Adobe.com/products/acrobat.
Adobe has distributed over half-a-billion copies of Adobe Reader since its introduction.
