Pinnacle Systems scores new deal with Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera Sports is to take on further servers and graphics generators from Pinnacle Systems for its newly-built Master Control Room (MCR).

Al Jazeera Sports is to take on further servers and graphics generators from Pinnacle Systems for its newly-built Master Control Room (MCR). The Arab broadcaster will use two Pinnacle Thunder XL servers and two DekoCast graphics generators to support three playout channels at its Qatar-based headquarters.

DekoCast will deliver comprehensive channel branding while the Thunder XL server is to provide playout when the new MCR begins airing early this year. Al Jazeera Sports is adding these new solutions to its existing Pinnacle equipment, which includes multiple DekoCasts, FXDekoIIs, Thunder LT servers, and DVEXCEL DVEs, all of which have been used for live production applications over the last year.

Pinnacle’s Thunder XL underpins Al-Jazeera Sports’ entire installation. Designed to meet the demands of live production, it combines the capabilities of a still store, clip store, mixer and DVE in a compact package.

“The technology decision for our MCR hinged on solutions that would be compatible with existing Pinnacle equipment and other third party technology, so Pinnacle was the natural choice,” says Adnan Mubarak, technical director, Al-Jazeera Sports. “Using Pinnacle solutions has enabled us to build the Al-Jazeera brand and streamline our workflows as we target further global growth.”
