US Robotics simplifies network printing

US Robotics claims to be helping home and SME network users print for less with the launch of its new USB print server.

US Robotics claims to be helping home and SME network users print for less with the launch of its new USB print server. The firm’s USR7500 product enables homes with multiple PCs and small to medium-sized businesses to network and share a cost-effective USB printer, rather than having to invest in a more expensive network-ready device.

“As more and more printers come standard with a USB port, the most cost effective solution is to connect these printers to the network with a USB to ethernet print server,” explained Daryle Brown, product marketing manager, U.S. Robotics. “Adding the USB print server to our full line of wireless gear, switches, routers, NICs (Network Interface Card) and firewall devices makes it easy for businesses to share USB printers with any secure wired or wireless network efficiently and affordably.”

With the launch of the 7500 U.S. Robotics claims to have added a product for which there was specific demand in the region. “One of the major issues that a network manager has to look at is that of the cost of extending the network with individual users being added to the network,” commented Yusuf Syed, the firm’s Middle East regional manager. “Routing the print command and shared printers through an always-on third-party PC can also sometimes create unnecessary delays in the task. The USR7500 will resolve these issues for our clients in the Middle East.”

The $91 USR 7500 print server connects to USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 ports and be simply configured via a Web browser style interface.
