Internet bookings increase

Global distribution system (GDS) provider Amadeus has announced a 13% increase in hotel bookings for the first three quarters of 2004, compared to the same period in 2003.

Global distribution system (GDS) provider Amadeus has announced a 13% increase in hotel bookings for the first three quarters of 2004, compared to the same period in 2003.
Amadeus attributes this growth to the introduction of its Dynamic Access level of connection, which gives travel agencies real-time availability and prices at every stage in the booking process. Currently, 82 hotel companies have signed up to Dynamic Access, representing in excess of 100 hotel brands and nearly 23,000 properties. These properties represent 70% of Amadeus’ total hotel bookings.
Hotel chains have also witnessed a growth in internet business. Hilton Hotels Corporation announced that bookings on its proprietary brand web sites during October 2004 exceeded call centre bookings from 800 numbers for that month, representing a company first since the advent of web site reservations.
During October, brand.com sites overall reported more than 972,000 room nights, whereas approximately 863,000 room nights were booked from 800 numbers through the 16 Hilton family call centres worldwide. “This milestone signifies our ability to drive bookings to our proprietary channels and reflects powerful brand recognition among consumers,” says Tom Keltner, president, brand performance and development group for Hilton Hotels Corporation. “Currently with more than 13% of all reservations being booked through brand.com, a 30% increase over last year, we expect that figure to increase to 15% of all reservations by next year.”
