HDS heralds channel charge

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has set its sights on the global small and medium business (SMB) sector. The vendor has whipped the covers off a range of channel-only storage solutions and named the partners raring to go in the Middle East.

The vendor has whipped the covers off a range of channel-only storage solutions and named the partners raring to go in the Middle East. Regional storage integrator STME and Saudi IT services outfit Naizak will lead HDS’ initial channel charge in the region.

The product offering includes a channel-optimised starter solution for SAN-based consolidation and data backup built on the new Hitachi Thunder 9520V Workgroup Modular Storage system. HDS’ SMB offering will focus on the Microsoft Windows 2003 Server platform market.

John Bentley, sales director at HDS Middle East, said: “We’ve seen a growing demand from the Middle East region’s SMB market for storage solutions tailored to their requirements. The Hitachi Data Systems channel partners here have a strong reach into that market, and now with the Thunder 9520V they can target that segment more effectively.”

With many SMB customers still using server internal or direct attached storage, HDS reckons that its tailored Storage Area Network (SAN) Starter Solutions will help customers address issues around scalability and manageability as well as tackling inefficient utilization, unacceptable application quality of service and high costs.

The HDS SAN Starter Solutions will include pre-configured storage systems and components from infrastructure vendors including Brocade, Emulex and McDATA.

This offering is one of the first results of increased investment and focus on the channel by our new global channels organisation led by Scott Genereux.”
