Young Arab Leaders launch action plan

Pan-Arabian youth business group launches plan to transform the Arab world and strengthen its role in the global economy.

The pan-Arabian youth business group set up by the World Economic Forum, Young Arab Leaders (YAL), has launched an action plan aimed at helping to transform the Arab world and aid its role in the global economy.

According to Mohammad Al Gergawi, chairman of YAL Executive Committee, the group re-invigorated its plans to expand and grow its membership at a recent meeting of its Executive Committee in Cairo, Egypt.

The organisation, which comprises the top business performers from every sector across the region, said it had also picked up speed and activated a strategic action plan.

Al Gergawi said: 'Young Arab Leaders look to the future with hope and confidence. This positive perspective underlies the initiatives we have taken. We know what is wrong with our society and we also know how to set it right. This is the basis on which our committee has agreed to move forward.'

The Executive Committee promised it would continue its efforts to boost membership numbers to 500 under-43 year olds from across the Arab world. The organisation said it would seek to identify and recruit the top performers in every sector from every Arab country.

Al Gergawi added: "The Young Arab Leaders will promote champions and role models to inspire our youth in their efforts to create a new and brighter perspective of the future. In line with this vision, the committee agreed on a vigorous agenda of initiatives to realise YAL's objectives."

"YAL members will come together to develop future leadership in the Arab world. It strives to be a vehicle to involve young Arab role models in initiatives focused on Arab youth development," he added. The organisation also aims to re-instil pride in an Arab identity and to provide young leaders across all sectors with the opportunity to network and cooperate in action-oriented task forces across Arab borders.

Specifically, new recruits to the group will receive help in achieving their goals through mentorship, training, and by being equipped with effective networking tools through conferences and digital media. "In addition, innovation and entrepreneurship will be awarded and publicised across the Arab world, " added Al Gergawi.
