HP StorageWorks hits the road

HP has just completed a regional roadshow covering the UAE, Jordan and Egypt. More than 130 enterprise and commercial partners attended the Simply StorageWorks Roadshow events as HP set out its strategic vision for storage.

Hazem Bazan, director solution partners organisation (SPO) at HP Middle East, said: “At HP we believe that the unabated data explosion should be supported by diverse technology choices, and tailor made strategies to protect data and information.”

The events, held in Dubai, Amman and Cairo, addressed the requirements of small and medium businesses (SMBs), large enterprises and consolidated storage networks with individual modules covering protection, back-up and recovery, as well as leveraging assets. As well as introducing the StorageWorks XP 12000, HP also presented the latest updates on Ultimate Business Protection, East as NAS and My First SAN.

HP has been working hard to take its storage vision to market in recent months. The Simply StorageWorks roadshow is currently touring some 26 cities in 18 countries across Europe. On the global stage, HP has also been touting its StorageWorks Grid vision with CEO Carly Fiorina leading the corporate charge.

After posting a global loss of US$208m in its enterprise servers and storage division in the second quarter, all eyes are now on HP’s ability to turn the situation around. Martin Regli, director of enterprise storage and software and network storage solutions at HP EMEA, said recently: “We cannot neglect the downturn that we have had but HP has a clear vision in storage. We are serious about storage and committed to channel partners, especially in the SMB space.”

HP claims that its StorageWorks Roadshow has been specifically tailored for the Middle East market. The vendor also claims that its scheme ‘is presently considered the region’s most comprehensive educational programme on storage’. The basis of that assertion is unclear and it is doubtful that rival vendors such as EMC and IBM would agree.
