Ulead aims for positive impact

Ulead Systems is hoping its newly unveiled PhotoImpact software will find favour with the growing number of digital camera users in the region.

Ulead’s newly launched PhotoImpact 10 is an updated version of the firm’s flagship image editing software title. This package has always retailed below $100 and this has not changed with the new tenth version. The software’s functions cover three main areas: digital photography, graphic design and Web graphic creation.

Ulead claims it has gone all out to make the new version relevant to all users, from complete novices to serious imaging enthusiasts. PhotoImpact for instance now includes tools and layouts to make it easier for new users to get the most from its in-built features.

“Ulead always takes tremendous pride in the sophistication and power of the features we include in our new releases,” said Lewis Liaw, president of Ulead Systems, North America. “What’s special about PhotoImpact 10 is that we have made greater strides in making the product easier and more intuitive to use. We are very excited to be able to deliver software that lets hobbyists, casual and business users take full advantage of their cameras and achieve professional quality results without having to spend a lot of time or learn complex software.”

PhotoImpact 10’s new Basic Mode simplifies the program’s interface by using larger, easily recognisable icons and what Ulead claims is “the right mix” of tools to repair and enhance digital photos. The firm has also revamped the software’s menu system so that commands are easier to understand and its categories make navigating PhotoImpact an altogether more intuitive experience. A new, more robust Browse Manager has also been included, with the aim of making browsing photos and processing groups of images faster and more convenient.

More advanced users should look out for new creative tools such as a Smart Lasso tool and a 3-Step Object Extraction Wizard for precisely selecting complex objects against low contrast backgrounds. A powerful new Touch up tool also lets users remove undesirable details so that those friends and family in photos can discover a new youthful look.

Boxed and electronic download versions of PhotoImpact 10 are available immediately, priced at $89.99. Registered PhotoImpact users meanwhile can upgrade for $49.99. Look out for a full review of PhotoImpact 10 in the January issue of Windows Middle East (on sale throughout December).
