Acer pushes Pakistani channel

Acer has appointed Zahid Mahmood as its new country sales manager in Pakistan. Mahmood’s primary focus is to build up Acer’s in-country channel network.

“I will be working to enhance the second-tier channel already in place as well as increasing the number of resellers Acer works with,” said Mahmood. “We want to reach more into the fast-growing small to medium business sector and grab that market.”

Mahmood, who has over 12 years experience in distribution and channel development, will be responsible for Acer’s core products: low-end servers, desktops and notebooks. Acer’s Dubai-based Middle East headquarters serves as the logistics hub for Pakistan and Mahmood will spend time working in both locations.

“Pakistan is a developing market for Acer, and it is important for us to have people in place who understand the business opportunities available, and will support our partner network,” said Krishna Murthy, general manager at Acer Middle East. “Zahid is a valuable addition to the Acer team, and we look forward to assisting him in strengthening our growth in Pakistan.”

Pakistan has a thriving PC market with major vendors slugging it out in a battle to win market share, particularly in the emerging retail sector. International vendors have a tough time in Pakistan due to the government’s support for local assemblers such as Mango and Inbox. Prices of branded PCs are higher due to government-imposed import levies but Acer is keen to bring on-board value-add partners who can sell the branded concept.

“There is a rising demand for the most advanced technology in Pakistan. Consumers here want a recognized brand name and the support that we can offer when making their purchase decision, and Acer has established itself as a leader in the computing field in Pakistan,” said Mahmood. “I am delighted to be working with the best team in the business.”
