Tech Data picked up two distribution awards at HP’s recent Middle East partner awards ceremony. Fighting off stiff competition, Tech Data picked up awards for the performance of its HP Supplies and HP Total Solutions Group (TSG) business units during 2004. Tech Data was the only partner to pick up more than one award in the distribution categories.

Both Tech Data’s HP Supplies and TSG businesses have seen revenues more than double during the past year. The distributor also conducts reseller training and promotional events for TSG as well as running a special sticker programme to fight grey and counterfeit issues affecting HP Supplies’ business in the Middle East.

Amanullah Khan, HP business unit manager at Tech Data Middle East, said: “The focus and level of engagement we enjoy with the channel on the HP business is second to none and to be recognized at the awards night for the health and performance of our HP business is indeed satisfying.”

Hazem Bazan, director solution partners organisation (SPO) at HP Middle East, added: “Tech Data has proven itself to be a focused, forward thinking company with a clear strategy that delivers results. The fact that they received awards in two categories underlines their position as a valued and trusted partner for HP in the Middle East.”

Besides Tech Data, a host of other distributors also picked up awards. Raya Distribution picked up an award for Channel Development Partner (CDP) in the most difficult economy courtesy of its efforts in Egypt during the last year. Aptec bagged the CDP award for HP’s ProCurve networking business while Redington’s efforts in Africa and across the region ensured it picked up the CDP award for PSG in 2004. Magirus, a relative newcomer to the Middle East, walked off with the award for best CDP in terms of TSG value-added distribution and Metra went home with the CDP award for IPG products during 2004.

Not everyone can receive an award and there were a couple of notable absentees from HP’s roll call of distribution winners this year. Both Emitac and Almasa left the awards empty-handed. However, at least one of these two companies knew in advance that it was not in line for an award, having been taken out for lunch and informed prior to the awards night by HP.
