palmOne launches first 256MB handheld

palmOne claims to have doubled the industry’s current handheld storage maximum through the launch of its latest Tungsten PDA.

palmOne claims to have doubled the industry’s current handheld storage maximum through the launch of its latest Tungsten PDA. The firm’s new T5 device features no less than 256MB of flash memory, which means users can store thousands of appointments, hundreds of VGA photos or two whole music CDs, according to palmOne.

Aimed at productivity-minded mobile professionals, the $399 PDA’s memory means it can double as a large flash storage drive. The T5 is powered by Intel’s 416MHz XScale processor and users view information via palmOne’s highest-resolution 320x480dpi color screen. Wireless functionality is also included via the PDA’s on-board Bluetooth technology.

“Today’s mobile professionals need greater access to their information, regardless of the data’s size,” said Ken Wirt, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for palmOne. “The Tungsten T5 handheld gives these highly mobile workers more storage capacity than any other handheld device. It also doubles as a flash drive, allowing people to carry their work from the office to home and back, without carrying a laptop.”

palmOne has launched a host of new accessories with the T5, including a brushed aluminium hard case, a new cradle kit and a vehicle power charger. The company also chose Gitex week to launch its first Wi-Fi card. This card contains a built-in 802.11b radio that lets users set-up and quickly connect to the Internet anytime they are within range of a Wi-Fi access point or hotspot. It’s set to retail for $129.
