i-mate stand JAM-packed
Industry innovator in the end-to-end wireless device solutions sector wows the Gitex crowds with new product offerings
The double storey i-mate stand is buzzing with activity as customers and partners flock to learn more about the latest models from the fast-growing wireless device vendor. As well as showcasing its latest products, i-mate staff are on hand to explain the latest features with distributors Tech Data and Source IT ready and waiting for potential resellers.
“We have now got a device for everyone,” says Dawn Robson, general manager at i-mate. “Not only can visitors view and trial our new sleek devices, but they have the opportunity to speak with our staff and have their questions answered on the spot.”
The i-mate JAM, due for general release in November, is making its Middle East debut at Gitex. Combining the best features of both the smartphone and PDA form factor, this compact device is being positioned as a mid-tier device designed to appeal to all users. Special attention has been paid to the i-mate JAM’s audio quality reflecting the growing functionality of i-mate’s multi-purpose devices.
i-mate is also using Gitex to launch the PDA2k, billed as the ultimate business PDA with a user-friendly sliding full QWERTY keypad allowing easy data input. “With this product, we are reaffirming our position as a leading supplier of business PDAs,” says John Williamson, VP technology at i-mate. “The device has built in Wi-Fi, the latest operating system from Microsoft and a screen that can be viewed horizontally or vertically. Even with all the extra functionality, we’ve still managed to improve the battery life.”
Complementing the i-mate JAM and i-mate PDA2k, the i-mate SP3i is pulling in users wanting a cutting edge device with entertainment options aplenty. Available in black, the SP3i comes bundled with games, themes and ring tones.
“i-mate is in a very strong position in terms of providing high-end business PDAs and business-oriented smartphones,” adds Williamson. “We are taking that experience and applying it to a much wider audience.”
While the products all have a distinctive look and feel, the functionality they provide is becoming increasingly similar across the range. “The market is going in different directions but the functions available on the devices are actually converging,” says Williamson. “The real difference comes in the user interface and the usability. Dawn has a wonderful phrase: ‘you’re either a voice person or a data person’. Data people prefer the PDA form factor with large touch screens while voice people prefer the smartphone.”
With its global headquarters in Dubai since 2003, i-mate has already carved out a strong position in the Middle East markets. However, i-mate has global aspirations with new offices scheduled to open in Italy and America before the end of 2004. “We are introducing the story of i-mate as a global company at Gitex and building the brand even further,” says Robson.
For those not yet convinced that i-mate’s stand is worth a visit, Robson has a simple message: “We’ve got the best products, the best staff and we’re an interesting company. Buy an i-mate. You don’t have a life without an i-mate.”
