Siemens to demo GPRS in Iran

Siemens mobile to hold first live GPRS demonstration at Iran Telecom 2004.

Siemens Mobile will conduct its first live General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) demonstration in Iran at the country’s fifth International Telecommunications & Information Technology Trade Fair, which will take place in Tehran from 19-22 September 2004.

“The Iranian telecommunications and information technology market is growing rapidly as both public and private sector organisations encourage Iran’s population to get connected and enter the information age,” says Soenke Peters, vice president and head of Siemens mobile networks, Middle East.

Siemens mobile Networks Middle East Head Quarters, which is strategically located in Dubai allowing close proximity to the regions operators as well as local understanding of the Middle East dynamics, is currently working with a number of operators in the region to upgrade existing 2G and 2.5G networks and install new 3G networks to facilitate the delivery of additional services to subscribers.

Additionally, it has facilitated customers’ growth with the installation of base stations, which allow them to reach new subscribers in previously remote areas.

“As an acknowledged leader in the world of mobile network services, Siemens mobile has worked extensively with operators across the Middle East region, enabling them to offer numerous voice, multimedia and data services to their customers – wherever they may be.

As such, we are delighted to attend the fifth International Telecommunications & Information Technology Trade Fair in Iran and demonstrate not only our solutions but how Siemens mobile can help the country achieve its CIT ambitions,” says Peters.

In addition to demonstrating its GPRS capabilities, Siemens mobile will walk the 25,000 show visitors through its end-to-end product portfolio, which includes GSM, IN (Intelligent Networks), EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) technologies.

“Siemens’ dedication to helping Iran build an effective CIT society is best evidenced by its deal with Iranian Mobile operators. We look forward to supporting Iran in its exciting and aggressive growth strategy,” adds Peters.

Siemens mobile Networks, Middle East Head Quarters is driven by the core values of the multi-national corporation. At the centre of these values is a constant focus on customer needs and the forging of cooperative partnerships.

As such, Siemens mobile strongly believes in the potential growth of its Middle East partners and is an active supporter of their aggressive regional expansion plans.

Siemens mobile operates a philosophy of working side by side with its customers to solve their problems, to facilitate and support their regional growth and increased competitiveness.

And it does this on a case by case basis, looking at the individual needs of each operator, and each market to bring them level up with the leading operators in the global GSM community.

The demo will be overseen by senior executives from Siemens Mobile Middle East, Siemens Communications Germany and Siemens Sherkate Sahami (Khass) in Iran.
