Government spending will fuel UAE construction boom

Dubai gets ready to host the biggest ever Big 5 show in November

Government spending on infrastructure and development projects is projected to continue over the next decade, according to organisers of the Middle East’s largest and longest established exhibition for the building industry.

“The current boom in the construction industry in the UAE is increasing with government spending set to continue over the next ten years on the creation of new infrastructure projects and office and residential accommodation,” said a statement from dmg world media Dubai Ltd., the organisers of the Big 5 exhibition.

The statement pointed out that the value of building projects under construction in the UAE is estimated at around US $30 billion, with most of these projects being situated in Dubai. They include, for example, new residential districts, the construction of over 60 new hotels across the country, the massive expansion of the airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

“Activity in this industry is at a premium with current large-scale projects due for completion representing just 10% of those to be implemented,” said Bob Hughes of dmg world media Dubai. “With the show’s continued increase in demand, it can only benefit exhibitors, distributors and exporters, and continue to augur well for the sustained economic well being of Dubai,” he added.

The biggest-ever Big 5 exhibition to date will be held this year from 20th to 24th November in the vast confines of the Dubai International Exhibition Centre. It is expected to attract 30 000 visitors and 1600 exhibitors from over 50 countries, according to dmg world media Dubai.

This year sees the use of the Sheikh Rashid Hall and a specially erected pavilion to provide the largest Big 5 exhibition to date. The organiser attributed the need for larger space to the growing demand from individual exhibitors and national pavilions.

“The importance of the demand for space led the organisers to dedicate the Sheikh Rashid Hall to exhibitors from all over the world and to those who specialise in one of the seven sectors: marble, ceramics & stone products and machinery,” said the dmg statement.

The other sectors of the Big 5 are: building & construction, cleaning & maintenance, water technology & environment, AC & refrigeration, bathrooms & ceramics and glass & metal. “The dedicated sectors provide a distinct advantage for exhibitors as well as visitors, assisting all concerned to find the right products for future projects,” the dmg statement explained.
