Toshiba has unveiled two new wide-screen notebooks prior to its appearance at Gitex 2004.

Announced under the 'selfish technology' banner of Toshiba’s new technology strategy, its new Satellite P30 and M30X series machines are billed as desktop replacement and multimedia devices respectively.

"Toshiba is committed to pre-empting the varied needs of consumers," said Santosh Varghese, Toshiba’s regional sales manager. "The Satellite P30 and Satellite M30X are excellent examples of the choice Toshiba is offering to ensure that Middle East consumers can find the right level of functionality and performance within their budget. They can also be rest assured that all notebooks across the Toshiba range bear the same mark of intelligent design and industry-leading quality standards."

The Satellite P30 is billed as a portable entertainment platform that is perfect for gaming enthusiasts or small/home offices. Equipped with a 17-inch wide-screen LCD, virtual surround sound and CD/DVD control buttons, it features ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics, a huge hard disk drive of up to 100GB, and is available in metallic red with a silver palm-rest.

The Centrino branded Satellite M30X meanwhile is targeted at students and home users wanting mid-range functionality. It combines a 15.4-inch wide-screen display with wireless functionality and comes packaged in a sleek, metallic hyper-silver case.
