Zayed University’s Institute for Technological Innovation will be making a splash at this year’s Gitex as it highlights its annual e-biz challenge and appeals to chief information officers with its IT Forum initiative. The former is for students, who will have the opportunity to present their e-business plans to a panel of experts, and the latter is a seminar programme that will teach local IT managers how to effectively combine technical and managerial skills so they can succeed in today’s blended business environment.
“The IT Forum plays an important role in promoting information sharing in a knowledge-based economy, where the proper planning and deployment of IT is essential not only for businesses to compete, but also to survive,” says Dr. Hanif Al Qassimi, vice president of Zayed University. “Zayed University and its Institute for Technological Innovation believe that proper collaboration between academia and the business community creates a dynamic environment that enables sharing of best management practices. This will benefit the region’s growth in this area,” he adds.
Open to senior management and CIOs on a first-come, first-serve basis with a maximum capacity of 100, the first IT Forum session will be held at 10:30 in the Ras Al Khaimah room on October 5. The second will take place at the ITI facilities at Dubai Internet City later that evening and be followed by a session with Luis Leamus, senior vice president of MetaGroup.
“Our goal is to help business and IT executives recognise the impact of enabling information technologies not only in their own organisation, but in the society at large,” explains Dr. Abdullah Abonamah, director of the Institute for Technological Innovation.
