Juniper throws down the gauntlet

Juniper Networks will use its Gitex debut to announce a greater presence in the region and throw down the gauntlet to Cisco Systems in the enterprise and service provider network markets.

“Our strategy is to increase our coverage in the Middle East, where we plan to open an office in Riyadh by Q404 and soon after in Cairo. Having resources in Riyadh is key for the Saudi market and this is a positive indication of our commitment,” says Mohamad Abdul Malak, regional sales director for Middle East, Pakistan and Central Africa, Juniper Networks.

Aside from showing its commitment to the region, Juniper will use Gitex to demonstrate products in its router range, as well as the security products it inherited following its recent acquisition Netscreen. The vendor will focus on its J-Series routers, which are aimed at the enterprises and service providers.

“We strongly believe this is the first time service providers have the right equipment to create managed services since we offer them the right management and provision platform to implement it,” says Abdul Malak.

Juniper is offering Netscreen security appliances and J-Series models as part of an integrated network based on M-Series routers, through which all components can be controlled by a single management tool.

“This is the first time Cisco feels that there is a real competitor in the Middle East market. We have won important service provider projects already in the area of IP/MPLS (internet protocol multiprotocol label switching), broadband and security. The good part is that our numbers are good, which helps to continue investment, and our pipeline is healthy with solid opportunities. I am very excited about our position in a region where customers want change,” says Abdul Malak.

“Of course we have an edge, especially when it comes to resiliency, availability and quality of the enterprise network. It is now proven that the big and the flashy name can’t take you too far and with time the client’s knowledge will increase about what Juniper Networks can do for them,” he adds.
