Shake up for cement prices

Cement imports into Dubai are now exempt from Duty

SHEIKH MOHAMMED has ruled that cement imports are now exempt from customs duties, storage fees and handling fees at Dubai Ports.

Dr. Ahmed Saif Belhasa, Chairman of the UAE Contractors’ Association, described the decision as a “generous gesture that shows His Highness is keen on supporting contractors and the construction sector in general. Such a move to consolidate the private sector relieves the burden put on consumers.”

Belhasa added that exempting cement from customs and storage fees will have a positive effect on the construction materials market in general and not only on cement.
Discharge (receiving, unloading) charges will also be reduced to cost price, without any profit for the port, for all importers.
