GAC signs Eastern African partner

GAC, the Dubai-based 3PL and shipping agency, has expanded its global network through a deal with Kenya’s Seaforth Shipping. Working alongside GAC’s own office throughout Africa, the tie-up with Seaforth will allow the company to expand its operational presence in Kenya and Tanzania.

Both Dar es Salaam and Mombasa, the main ports in Eastern Africa, are important trading points for Middle East companies, with two sailings a month going out of the UAE alone. The loads carried include cars, tyres and automobile spare parts for resale in the East African markets.

“Mombasa and Dar es Salaam are transforming into important transport arteries for international trade, especially in trans-shipment to the adjacent Indian Ocean islands,” commented Lars Heisselberg, group vice president, GAC Shipping. “Besides the significant increase in trans-shipment traffic, the cargo boom is also fuelled by domestic cargo demands from hinterland states bordering Kenya and Tanzania.”
