Etisalat texts SMEs

Etisalat has launched a new short message service (SMS) value-added offering, SMS Broadcast, that allows small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) to send instant messages - in Arabic and English to the mobile phones of their clients and employees.

Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) has announced the launch of its new Short Message Service (SMS) value-added offering, SMS Broadcast, that allows Small and Medium-size enterprises (SMEs) to send instant messages - in Arabic and English to the mobile phones of their clients and employees.

SMS services are available on digital GSM networks allowing text messages of up to 160 characters to be sent and received via the network operator's message centre to the user's mobile phone, or from the internet, using an 'SMS gateway' website.

“We are providing businesses with the technology to help them keep in contact with their customers and employees. Apart from the required approval, the company must also have its own database of mobile numbers whose owners have agreed to receive this instant messaging service,” says Mohammed Al Fahim, Etisalat’s executive vice president for marketing.

With more than 2.3 million text messages being sent every day in the UAE alone, Etisalat says businesses are now becoming increasingly aware of the potential of SMS and are looking at ways to use text messaging as a new channel of communication.

“The SMS Broadcast Service offers an exciting new solution to these businesses communication needs. The system is simple to use and requires no technical expertise,” adds Ahmed Bin Ali, manager public relations, Etisalat.

Businesses can subscribe to the service at any Etisalat business or commercial centre. Only those companies that have obtained the required authorisation will be allowed to use the service.
