Apple Computer has launched the latest version of its iPod MP3 player. Its new fourth-generation 'big' iPod arrives shortly after the firm revealed its new mini iPod would begin shipping into the region.

The new 20GB and 40GB ‘big’ iPods incorporate Apple’s new ‘click wheel’ controller, as seen on the iPod mini, and offer what Apple claims are battery lives of up to 12 hours.

Apple’s touch-sensitive click wheel allows users to select playlists, scroll through thousands of songs, and start playing music via a simple drag of the thumb. The new iPods also feature Apple’s new Shuffle Songs function, which can play the songs in a selected playlist or the user’s entire music collection at random.

Apple’s slimmer, fourth-generation 20GB and 40GB iPods will be available from mid-August for $365 and $495 respectively. Apple’s 4GB iPod mini began shipping on July 24 and should be available in the Middle East from September, priced $300.
