Rotana TV goes for SGL FlashNet archive

Video archiving management solutions provider SSL will provide digital storage to Rotana TV as the company moves to a tapeless environment.

Video archiving management solutions provider Software Generation Ltd will provide digital storage to Rotana TV as the music production company moves to a completely tapeless environment.

The installation, which was managed and delivered by Sony Professional Services, will see SGL supply Rotana with the SGL FlashNet Archive, which provides the link between video stored as files on a video server and the tape library that serves as the long term repository.

SGL FlashNet archive will supply the glue between Pinnacle’s MediaStream 900si-8 servers and Harris Louth automation control. SGL FlashNet Archive also controls a Sony CSM-200BS PetaSite and four Sony SDZ-100 SAIT drives. Programme scheduling is supplied by IBIS Traffic Management. The complete solution provides Rotana with an all-digital storage solution designed to communicate seamlessly with its existing studio facilities in Beirut and Cairo.

“By integrating a tape-free storage solution, Rotana TV can automatically select and playout music clips and promos through the asset management system with a simple click of the mouse or touch of a button,” says Bernie Walsh, SGL’s sales and marketing director. “By partnering with major players, we are seeing a rapid acceptance of our shared storage system in the broadcast market. With customers like Rotana TV seeing and utilising the advantages of SGL FlashNet, we are looking forward to increasing our business in the Middle East.”
