Emirates Airline is examining the possibility of setting up a major hub at Auckland in New Zealand, as it looks to increase its competition with Qantas and Air New Zealand. According to ATWonline, EK is assessing a range of possible routes from Auckland including Fiji, Los Angeles/San Francisco and Buenos Aires, as it seeks round-the-world capability.

The Dubai-based airline is rapidly expanding its network to and beyond Australia, and this will be key in attracting Australian passenger onto its South Pacific network. This year, EK is expected to be get permission for a second daily Dubai-Sydney service, and it is also set to increase its daily Dubai-Perth service to eleven times a week from October. Four of these flights will continue on from Perth to Auckland or Christchurch.
