Supermarkets, government departments and major food and drink producers are among those expected to attend a mobile computing workshop in the UAE next week.
The event, organised by mobile device vendor Intermec, takes place at Dubai’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Wednesday.
The organisers claim the workshop will help end users understand more about the converging technologies of GPRS/GSM, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth
and RFID, and how they’re driving the growth of related products.
The event also covers issues such as how Microsoft is driving the development platform with its Windows Mobile 2003 Operating System and how Intel are setting the standards in Mobile hardware architecture.
Intermec, which is providing a handheld scoring solution to the organisers of next month’s Dubai Desert Classic golf competition, hopes the event will appeal to companies which deploy mobile workers across many sectors.
“Intermec’s flagship 700 Mobile Computing Platform is probably sold in more units than all of the other competitive manufacturers of Rugged Mobile PCs put together. Hence we know what we’re talking about,” says the company’s Middle East regional manager Colin Summers.
