Traders set for Dubai debut
The first Traders Hotel, an economy hotel brand operated by the Shangri-La International hotel chain, will open in Dubai in April this year.
Traders Hotel, an economy hotel brand operated by the Shangri-La International hotel chain, will open in Dubai in April this year. This is the first Traders property in the Middle East.
“We have just entered the final phase of the pre-opening plan,” says Traders Hotel general manager Wolf Flecker. “Our aim is to be positioned and recognised as a hotel that will offer an affordable hotel solution for savvy business travellers. We are confident this approach will be well received in the local market.”
The 250-room hotel is designed by Badri & Bensouda and is located in the commercial district of Deira in Dubai. The finishing touches to the hotel are now in progress; when completed the property will feature minimalist interiors, broadband internet access, electronic in room locker and private mini bars.
“Our main market is business travellers and of course the meetings segment,” says Flecker. “However during key Dubai events, such as Dubai Summer Surprises, we also expect to attract a share of the leisure market.”
The hotel in Dubai will be the sixth hotel in the group’s Traders brand launched by Shangri-La in 1989. Shangri-La International Hotels & Resorts will manage this property as well as the Bar Al Jissah resort development in Muscat for the Oman-based Zubair Corporation.
“We are delighted to be associated with the Shangri-La group,” said Rashid Al Zubair, group president and chief executive of The Zubair Corporation, Oman. “The Traders brand is synonymous with quality business class accommodation and will compliment our plans for the exclusive Barr Al Jissah development in Oman.”
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is the largest Asian-based luxury hotel company in the region and currently manages 42 hotels with a rooms inventory of over 21,000.
