Emirates Telecommunications & Marine Services FZE, e-marine, has been awarded the turnkey contract to install the new submarine fibre optic telecommunication cable link between Qatar and UAE.

e-marine is a wholly owned subsidiary of Etisalat and is one of the region's leading submarine cable installation, maintenance, storage and repair company. The new project includes the installation of more than 200 kilometres of cabling. With e-marine's ships and resources ready to start work, the entire project is expected to be completed within nine months, by July 2004.

"Winning this prestigious new contract reinforces our regional leadership in submarine cabling installation and maintenance. It also gives further proof that we offer highly specialised, international standard services at the most competitive prices," says Omar Jassim Bin Kalban, chief executive officer, e-marine.

e-marine has recently been awarded the ISO 9001:1994, ISO14001:1996 and OHASAS 18001:1999 certification for Health, Safety & Environment. "This certification is seen as a foundation step towards excellence and a quality assurance for our customers," adds Bin Kalban.

e-marine has its state-of-the-art facility with a modern cable depot located in Port Zayed in Abu Dhabi. It currently operates two fully functional cable ships to lay and maintain cables in both deep and shallow waters.
