Lebanon's MoT upgrades network management capability

Lebanon's Ministry of Telecoms (MoT) has enlisted Tellabs to provide it with a managed access system to allow it to rapidly provision digital leased line services and provide data access to its customers across the country.

The move will see Tellabs' 8100 network manager and network
terminating unit (NTU) deployed to afford the MoT increased control over its network and allow it to reduce operating expenses.

After the solutions' implementation, MoT staff will be able to verify service quality and manage services in real time from a single desktop, reducing maintenance and operational costs, according to Tellabs.

The vendors' 8110 NTU modems, meanwhile, will provide auto-configuration and 'plug and play' support, enabling fast network roll-out and deployment of services.

Further, the network terminating units can be used for data transmission from customer premises to the nearest point of presence (POP). They support a range of DSL technologies such as IDSL, SDSL, HDSL and SHDSL.

The products are being distributed by Tellabs' Lebanon-based partner Tetracom, a system integrator of data and voice switching, converged networking, IP Telephony, customer care, CRM, voice loggers and low current solutions.

"As the MoT expands its network and introduces new services such as data for its many customers, our solutions will provide the control it needs to get the best from its network and provide a high quality, cost-effective service," says Bill Burns, vice president of Tellabs Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
