FBQHC rolls out Collaboration Suite

Faisal Bin Qassim Al-Thani and Sons Holding Company (FBQHC) is attempting to slash operating costs with a deployment of Oracle Collaboration Suite.
The holding company, which has interests in the automotive, transportation, logistics, petrochemical, manufacturing, engineering, tourism, real estate, and retail sectors, will use Collaboration Suite to centralise its communications infrastructure across its various business units.
Oracle’s groupware will provide FBQHC employees with a single in-box for all e-mails, files and fax messages. Staff will also be able to access messages from Outlook, web browsers and mobile phones.
“Given the size and diversity of FBQHC, it was vital that we centralize key communications functions, giving employees the tools they need, such as calendaring and e-mail, while enabling our IT team to manage these applications centrally across all of the different companies,” comments Ehsan Idrissi, group IT manager, FBQHC.
The company’s choice to deploy Collaboration Suite was taken after a full systems review. The Qatar-based organisation took the decision to migrate away from its existing Lotus Notes environment due to the lower cost of ownership offered by Oracle's groupware.
When installed, Collaboration Suite will be consolidated on a single server, thereby reducing costs and maximising the use of network bandwidth. The Oracle software will also provide a single point of management for FBQHC.
“Oracle Collaboration Suite will allow FBQHC to consolidate our servers for file sharing and email, streamline our maintenance procedures, and lower our overall IT costs,” explains Idrissi.
“Any solution that reduces the complexity of our technology environment, and fosters easier communication internally and with customers, is a lifesaver for a company the size of FBQHC, and the Oracle Collaboration Suite is just that type of solution,” he adds.
According to Husam Dajani, vice president for Oracle Middle East, Collaboration Suite will also create savings for FBQHC due to the lower licensing, management and hardware costs required to operate the software.
“Reducing IT-related expenses in one company can be a challenge, so achieving that goal across the group is a complex undertaking. Oracle Collaboration Suite will enable FBQHC to lower its cost of ownership and operating expenses while easing communication and collaboration capabilities throughout its operations,” Dajani adds.
