Dubai 2003 plays host to the first Middle East Aviation IT Managers’ forum. The event, which is organised by ITP and Aviation Business Middle East, will allow IT managers from the region to share their experiences and to hear about the latest products in the market.

The 8-9 December event will feature speakers from numerous aviation organisations, including Emirates SkyCargo, Gulf Air, Qatar Airways and Munich Airport, as well as aviation solutions providers, such as SITA, Inmarsat, ARINC and IBS Software. The event will address IT issues of strategic importance to airlines and airports, and it will provide a forum for sharing information and experiences on IT issues.

“This forum is a unique opportunity for IT managers to share their thoughts on priorities for IT investment within the aviation industry in the region. This could well lead to more projects that are jointly funded and opportunities for greater collaboration on IT services in the region,” says Hugh Pride, the ex-head of Mercator, who is chairing the event.

A comprehensive IT survey of airlines and airports in the Middle East will also be presented at the forum. The aim of the study is to provide a benchmark for IT managers to measure their own activities, increase co-operation, to reduce costs through economies of scale and to share information.

“Information management and information technology is not just business between computers,” says Dieter Armgardt, IT director, Qatar Airways. “IT only makes sense if the business targets are well understood, and this understanding begins with the exchange of information, experiences, and practices of human beings. Therefore, I believe that conferences like the Middle East Aviation IT Managers’ Forum are essential to keep in touch with reality.”
